2012 Hall of Fame Awarded to Joan Marino 

     The story begins at a Pioneer 1989 Luncheon when one of the Council members handed Joan three Hug-a-Bears to sew. After that she asked the Company for a few volunteers to help her make more. Six volunteers arrived, then ten and then they grew to thirty within a year. They meet every Tuesday to sew and stuff them. This enthusiastic group at the Peabody Council on Aging work hard to help the Pioneers. Bears are always ready to take off to any areas or organizations in need. Joan organizes the appreciation luncheon for the Hug-a-Bear ladies. She helps with the serving at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA, and with the annual cookout at the Brockton VA Hospital and bingo night at Chelsea Soldiers Home. Making and serving sandwiches to our Veterans. She also helps with the assembly of ditty bags for our Veterans at Christmas time. She is involved with the Children’s Christmas Project for needy children with the wrapping and the delivery of items. Volunteers at the Annual Special Needs Event at Triangle. Helps making lunch for the clients and with other activities that take place on this day.Joan is truly an extraordinary woman who has given her time, her talents, her determination and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others. 

 

 

Special Needs Day  –  On July 16, 2011, Thomas Sherwin volunteers held their annual Special Needs Event for the physically and mentally challenged at Triangle, Inc. in Malden, MA. Forty-three Pioneer volunteers welcomed more than 300 people including 164 clients and 102 staff/guardians. At  this free event, each client received a goodie bag, lunch and ice cream in addition to enjoying bingo, a magician, face painting, dancing with music provided by a DJ, and other fun activities. Triangle, Inc. empowers people with disabilities and their families to enjoy rich, fulfilling lives and is committed to helping the world realize that all people have abilities. Also, the Thomas Sherwin Chapter awarded three $500 scholarships during the Special Needs Event.

 

 

Caring for our Veterans  – The Sherwin Pioneers celebrated the start of its 100th anniversary by partnering with several organizations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to help veterans and the homeless. Learn more by viewing Sherwin’s YouTube post.
